Kaizen PLM provides a precision-engineered post processor for NMIS's Breton Raptor 5-axis CNC machine, streamlining manufacturing processes using NX CAM

The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), operated by the University of Strathclyde, is dedicated to advancing manufacturing through innovation. Located within the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) in Renfrewshire, NMIS collaborates with businesses to enhance productivity and sustainability in manufacturing.

Summary:

Business Challenges:

  • Time-consuming manual NC code edits

  • Post processor not supporting advanced tool changes

  • Simulation results not matching machine behaviour

Keys to Success:

  • Expert knowledge in Siemens NX post configuration

  • Strong understanding of NMIS’s machining needs

  • Agile collaboration and rapid iteration

Results:

  • Reduce program development time

  • Eliminated additional external post-processing software

The Challenge: NMIS's Breton Raptor 5-axis CNC machine faced challenges with the existing post processor, which required the use of a separately licensed external software. This created integration challenges resulting in delays and additional complexity and re-integration costs for each NX version update. It incurred additional IT administration overhead and restricted the number of concurrent users. The Solution:

Kaizen PLM partnered with NMIS's manufacturing team to develop a custom NX post processor tailored for the Breton Raptor 5-axis CNC machine. The solution incorporated support for complex tool change sequences, optimized output for NMIS's controller. The solution was built in Post Configurator ensuring native operation within the NX ecosystem.

"Kaizen PLM helped us streamline our post-processing workflow by removing the need for external software. This reduced costs, simplified IT management, and allowed us to update NX more efficiently without delays."

Conor Mac Fadden

The Results:

With the new post processor, NMIS's can update NX versions without complex software reintegration and updates. Moving from an external to native post processor eliminates several steps in post-processing programs resulting in faster iteration of programs.

Looking Ahead:

Kaizen PLM continues to support NMIS by exploring multi-channel machine simulation and post customization for upcoming manufacturing applications, further enhancing NMIS's commitment to innovation and excellence in manufacturing. Customer’s Primary Business:
