Supporting British Pipeline Agency Limited with Flomaster Licences, Training, and On-Site Collaboration

The British Pipeline Agency Limited (BPA) turned to Kaizen PLM to support their adoption of Siemens Flomaster, a leading tool for thermo-fluid system simulation.

Background

The British Pipeline Agency Limited (BPA) is a key player in the UK's pipeline infrastructure, with decades of experience managing complex fluid transportation systems. As they sought to enhance their simulation capabilities for pipeline networks, they turned to Kaizen PLM to support their adoption of Siemens Flomaster, a leading tool for thermo-fluid system simulation.

The Challenge

BPA needed more than just access to simulation software—they required deep, hands-on knowledge to confidently use Flomaster in their real-world engineering contexts. The organisation was looking for a partner that could provide both reliable licensing and the technical insight to help them extract full value from the platform.

Our Approach

Kaizen PLM delivered a comprehensive solution built around three core pillars:

  1. Licensing & Technical Support

We supplied BPA with the appropriate Flomaster licences, ensuring they had the right modules and access to technical support for ongoing use.

  1. Advanced Training Programme

Our team visited BPA at their site in Hemel Hempstead for a five-day, intensive training course. The training began with foundational principles for newer users and progressively transitioned into advanced simulation techniques tailored to BPA's operational context.

  1. Collaborative Application Support

Following the core training, we worked directly with BPA engineers on specific case studies relevant to their infrastructure. This allowed us to address real challenges using their live models, providing guidance while enabling knowledge transfer to their team.

Outcomes

Increased Proficiency: BPA engineers gained a structured, end-to-end understanding of Flomaster—from initial system setup to advanced network analysis.

  • Applied Learning: By focusing on BPA’s own projects, we ensured the training translated immediately into practical outcomes.

  • Sustainable Adoption: With the right licences and a team equipped to use them effectively, BPA is now positioned to integrate simulation more deeply into their design and operational processes.

The Power of Flomaster

Flomaster is a powerful simulation environment designed for modelling complex thermo-fluid systems, such as pipelines, heating and cooling systems, and process networks. It enables engineers to:

  • Simulate transient and steady-state flow conditions

  • Optimise design for safety and performance

  • Analyse dynamic response to control changes, pump failures, and valve operations

  • Interface with control systems and external tools for integrated analysis

Its flexibility makes it suitable across industries ranging from oil & gas to aerospace, automotive, and energy.

Conclusion

This project reflects Kaizen PLM’s commitment to not just delivering software, but enabling our clients to use it confidently and effectively. By combining robust licensing, in-person training, and hands-on modelling support, we helped BPA take meaningful steps toward more advanced, simulation-driven engineering processes.
